Arranged Marriage?

Hell no. I come from a place where even my parents went through love marriages. It is a little hard to accept the fact that there are still arranged marriages around, especially people around me. Apparently, in India, arranged marriage is very popular. It is not that much difference from joining a dating club or something. Your parents circulate your pretty picture to their circle of friends (of the same social class) then one of the other parents show it to their son. Like it? Not bad? Let's try dating. Then get married and make babies. (it is frowned upon if you make babies before you get married). Pretty much like a dating club isn't it? Except that you have already been approved by parents of both parties. Believe me, it is not that easy to gain parental approval in er, free love. Viola. See, perfect match. Plus your parents can't come running to you and say you married a terrible man cos they picked that man for you.

Sound like a cool plan. But thank you very much. I have a friend who is going to get married in India end of the year. Except that he hasn't seen his bride-to-be. Oh I thought you have long hair in the picture. What if he met someone that he likes during his stay here? He told me that he has no issues with his marriage. Mummy knows best. Yah and his meddlesome friend here, has some issues with that. Really? No issues? I can't believe it. This is so foreign. Perhaps I was bought up into thinking that I have to look for my own happiness and it doesn't fall from the sky.

For the record, I am not against it. But it just so hard to accept it. Especially in today's world. Like my mum says, I'm too westernised for my own good.

Shut up and be thankfully that The BF doesn't have to go through arranged marriage (yet)
